  • With the endorsement from the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou Medical University commenced the admission process for undergraduate students pursuing studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy in 2002 and 2005,respectively.Subsequently,in the auspicious December of 2023, these two academic disciplines underwent official amalgamation, culminating in the establishment of the esteemed School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Wenzhou Medical University.The overall positioning of the college is a research-oriented teaching institution, focusing on undergraduate and graduate education, with teaching and research running parallel.


    The School of Traditional Chinese Medicine currently has two first level master's programs in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine; Two undergraduate majors in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Herbal Medicine. At present, the college has 357 undergraduate students and 48 graduate students. There are 10 alliances of traditional Chinese medicine graduate training bases in the college; An affiliated traditional Chinese medicine hospital: Dongyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital; A Wenzhou Medical University integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospital, as well as 20 teaching hospitals both inside and outside the province, including Zhejiang Tongde Hospital, Yongjia County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and Kunshan City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital; There are also more than 20 internship hospitals such as Zhejiang Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Wenzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and Rui'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, ensuring the teaching, internship, and training of traditional Chinese medicine and herbal medicine.


    The college has a high-quality faculty, with 107 faculty members and 26 teachers holding doctoral degrees, accounting for 24%; 60 people have a master's degree, accounting for 56%; There are 43 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 40%, 38 teachers with intermediate professional titles, accounting for 36%, 5 doctoral supervisors, and 23 master's supervisors. The college has 7 academic experience guidance teachers for nationally renowned traditional Chinese medicine experts, 5 inheritors of academic experience for nationally renowned traditional Chinese medicine experts, 2 renowned Chinese medicine teachers in Zhejiang Province, 19 renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in Zhejiang Province, 17 grassroots renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in Zhejiang Province, and 43 municipal renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. Professor Cheng Jinguo, the leader of the discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the academic experience inheritance guidance teacher for national renowned traditional Chinese medicine experts, an expert in the national renowned traditional Chinese medicine expert inheritance studio, and the leader of Zhejiang Province's provincial renowned traditional Chinese medicine key discipline (nephrology).


    The college introduced Professor Xie Tian, a leading talent in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, in May 2024. Professor Xie Tian is a special allowance expert of the State Council and a special grade expert of Zhejiang Province. He has won 2 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 2 first prizes for excellent scientific research achievements of the Ministry of Education, Wu Jieping Pharmaceutical Innovation Award, He Liang He Li Science and Technology Innovation Award, and China Invention Patent Gold Award.


    The Traditional Chinese Medicine major has been granted the pilot reform for the  "Excellent Doctors(Traditional Chinese Medicine)Education and Training Program°and the  key construction project of Wenzhou by the Ministry of Education and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.In 2020,it was selected as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate program construction site,boasting one provincial-level key discipline and four provincial-level key specialties,along with five provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers,and 15 clinical and internship bases both within the province and  beyond.Thepassing rate for graduates in the annual Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination consistently ranks within the top 10 nationwide,and in 2023,the employment rate  reached 100%.The internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine education has been  expanded through  the collaboration between the Confucius Institute at Burapha University and the TCM Doctor Association Thailand in establishing the Thailand Excellent TCM Doctor  Training Base and the Sino-Thai TCM Continuing Education Base.


    The major of Traditional Chinese Medicine was approved for construction in March 2004, and the first batch of undergraduate students were admitted in September of the same year. In 2006, the first level master's program in Traditional Chinese Medicine was approved, and the first batch of master's students in Traditional Chinese Medicine began to be admitted. The Traditional Chinese Medicine major is a "provincial first-class major" and a "13th Five Year Plan advantage and characteristic major" in ordinary universities in Zhejiang Province. The rhizoma curcumae plantation base is the first among the eight well-known Dao-di herbs in Zhejiang Province(Zhebawei),to pass the national Good Agricultural Practice(GAP)certification,and it is also the first GAP base led by a higher education institution in the nation.Establishing a clinical research base for traditional Chinese medicine under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine (a key discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine), and two provincial teaching demonstration centers; Write two textbooks for the National 12th Five Year Plan as the deputy editor in chief. The practical teaching is based on the "Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Southern Zhejiang Characteristics", the key discipline base of "Pharmacology and Biochemical Pharmacy" in Zhejiang Province, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Training Base. The Chinese Medicine major has established a comprehensive talent cultivation system and research team for traditional Chinese medicine. Based on the authentic medicinal materials and local socio-economic needs in southern Zhejiang, stable research directions have been formed in the standardized cultivation and product development of traditional Chinese medicine, the chemical and active substance basis of traditional Chinese medicine, the pharmacological effects and new drug development of traditional Chinese medicine, the chemical biology research of active ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine, and the analysis and omics research of traditional Chinese medicine.


    Under the leadership of the school party committee, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Wenzhou Medical University will adhere to the college spirit of "inheriting the past and embracing the present, integrating Chinese and Western medicine, and integrating medicine", cultivate various traditional Chinese medicine talents that meet the needs of society, serve the Healthy China strategy, and further promote the modernization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.
