    Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) has always been tapping its great potential for basic research and applied basic research to push itself to the forefront of international scientific research and to meet the needs of local development. It has not only greatly enhanced its capacity for doing research in cutting-edge scientific fields and significant research projects, but also contributed significantly to local medical and health services and social development.

    WMU has undertaken over 1,700 national-level scientific research projects, including more than 80 major and key projects such as those under the National Key Research and Development Program of China. 

    The university has achieved over 240 national, provincial and ministerial-level awards for its research outcomes, including 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 5 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 second prizes of the National Technology Invention Award, 1 first prize and 3 second prizes of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Award, 5 first prizes of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, 1 first prize of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association Science and Technology Award, 1 Zhejiang Science and Technology Award for Major Contributions, 21 first prizes of Zhejiang Science and Technology Award, 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 3 third prizes of the Ministry of Education Outstanding Achievement Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, 2 second prizes of the National Outstanding Achievement Award in Educational Research, and 23 prizes of the Zhejiang Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences.

    WMU ranks 16th in the comprehensive science and technology value of Chinese medical colleges and 4th among the jointly built medical colleges by the government, ministries, and provinces

    In the five-year total scientific and technological value of Chinese hospitals, Affiliated Eye and Optometry Hospital, Affiliated First Hospital, and Affiliated Second Hospital rank 52nd, 66th, and 68th respectively. In the ranking list of clinical disciplines, our affiliated ophthalmology hospital's ophthalmology degree ranks second in the country; The First Affiliated Hospital ranks among the top 30 in China in five disciplines, including burn surgery, cardiovascular disease, emergency medicine, gastroenterology, and neurosurgery; The affiliated Second Hospital ranks among the top 30 in China in six disciplines, including anesthesiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, nursing, and allergenics.
