  • About Us

The School of Mental Health was established in March 2016 in collaboration with the Wenzhou Kang Ning Hospital Group, the largest private and publicly listed psychiatric hospital group in China. Since its inception, the school has grown significantly and earned a strong reputation in the field. Our Department of Psychiatry has been ranked first and awarded a 5-star (A++) rating in the psychiatric field in the China University Academic Ranking (CUAA) for three consecutive years (2022 to 2024). Additionally, our Department of Psychology has received a 4-star rating and is ranked 16th among all applied psychology departments nationwide. We offer a comprehensive range of full-time undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs, enrolling approximately 260 students annually. Currently, the School is training about 850 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. We also run an international graduate training program in collaboration with the University of Alberta in Canada. Our alumni have achieved numerous accolades and excelled in their professional fields post-graduation. We take pride in our academic accomplishments, with faculty members receiving various national and provincial awards and publishing extensively in top-tier journals.

    Features

Our primary goal is to train dedicated mental health professionals and engage in impactful research. By integrating psychiatric and psychological disciplines, we provide a comprehensive spectrum of training, research activities, and services. These include basic sciences, disease mechanisms and etiology, prevention, early detection and diagnosis, non-pharmacological interventions, clinical treatments, and public health education, all aimed at addressing complex mental health challenges.

We also seamlessly integrate collaborations among the university, hospital, educational systems, and industry. In addition to the Kang Ning Hospital Group, we collaborate with eight top-tier (3-A) affiliated psychiatric hospitals with over 10,000 beds, facilitating teaching, research, and student practicums. Our partnerships extend to the health industry, including collaborations in AI and probiotics, adopting the Big Health approach to translating knowledge into actionable solutions.

    Our Talented Faculty

Nearly all (95%) of our multidisciplinary faculty members hold doctorate degrees, with about half at the professorial level or equivalent, and about half possessing international experience. Our senior research team leaders, including Fellows of the Canadian Academy and the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the U.K., are developing robust programs in brain sciences, public mental health, and social psychology and social governance. They also serve as leaders in national academic associations and as editors of international journals.

    Research Interests and Research Institutes

Our key research interests encompass a wide range of areas, including basic and clinical research in mental health disorders, brain health, adolescent mental health, geriatric psychiatry, digital health and AI, social psychology, developmental psychology, and public mental health research. We have established several dynamic, high-level research institutes at the national level, including the National Key Clinical Profession in Psychiatry and a branch of the National Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Research Centre. Other notable institutes include the Zhejiang Provincial Alzheimer Key Laboratory, Zhejiang Provincial Psychiatric Clinical Teaching Centre, Zhejiang Provincial Digital Psychiatric International Collaboration Centre, China-Canada Mental Health Advance Research Institute, and the Public Mental Health Centre, each specializing in frontier research areas.
