    WMU's"Circle of Friends" Expands Further

It is reported that the China-Thailand Biopharmaceutical Industry Alliance is an academic, non-official and non-profit organization composed of Chinese and foreign associations, universities, medical institutions and enterprises. The establishment of the alliance signifies that both China and Thailand will further strengthen industrial collaborative innovation.

The alliance members include 8 Thai institutions such as the Thailand-China Science and Technology Association, Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, Mahasarakham University, Prince of Songkla University, Burapha University and Krirk University, as well as 8 Chinese units including the China Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Association, Wenzhou Medical University, Kunming Medical University, Guizhou Medical University, Shenzhen Mindray Biomedical Electronics Co., Ltd., Beijing Northland Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Yunnan Walvax Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Bainuo Chuangrui (Wenzhou) Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

"WMU has a solid scientific research foundation. This cooperation will surely promote resource sharing, transformation and industrialization of scientific research achievements, foster the integration of biopharmaceuticals and traditional medical cultures of the two countries, and ultimately benefit the people of both countries,"said Prof. Pichai Sonchaeng, Secretary-General of the Thailand-China Science and Technology Association and representative of Thai associations, with joy after witnessing the establishment of the alliance.

At Wenzhou Medical University, representatives from both sides of the alliance also participated in the China-Thailand friendly university exchange activities and jointly signed the "Memorandum of the China-Thailand Biopharmaceutical Industry Alliance" and the "Memorandum of the China-Thailand Medical Cooperation Community", marking that the cooperation among alliance members in medical education, industrial coordination and medical services has entered a new stage of multi-party linkage and comprehensive promotion.

The establishment of the "Sino-Thai Medical Cooperation Alliance" by both sides also means that the two countries will further strengthen medical services and technological applications. By establishing joint diagnosis and treatment mechanisms and difficult case discussion mechanisms, it will promote precise cooperation in clinical technologies, public health emergency responses and exchanges in modern hospital management, advance the application of artificial intelligence in the field of medical and health care, and improve the efficiency and quality of medical services. Medical talents from the two countries will also strengthen mutual visits, exchanges and further studies.

It is understood that to promote Sino-Thai cooperation, since the beginning of this year, WMU has successively sent 16 groups including university president delegations, affiliated hospital delegations, student summer study tours, and academic exchange groups in traditional Chinese medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, pharmacy and other fields to Thailand for in-depth cooperation. It has expanded diversified cooperation such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, joint talent training, overseas promotion of medical technologies and industrial achievement docking, added 4 high-level Thai universities as partner institutions, and significantly expanded the "circle of friends" of friendly Thai universities.

    WMU's Mission in Sino-Thai Cooperation

In fact, WMU’s ties with Thailand date back many years, laying a solid groundwork for the Sino-Thai Partnership Institutions Cooperation and Exchange Activities.

WMU is the only university member of the Thai Consulate General in Shanghai-Zhejiang Province Exchange and Cooperation Joint Committee, serving as an important bridge for Zhejiang-Thailand cooperation in education and healthcare. Several of its projects have been selected as key exchange activities by national and provincial authorities such as the Ministry of Commerce, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education.

Notably, since 2006, WMU has partnered with Thailand’s Burapha University to co-found a Confucius Institute—the first in Thailand to introduce traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture. It has built a dual-track curriculum system of "Chinese + Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Chinese + Culture", training over 10,000 students in total. Since 2011, the two universities have launched TCM culture experience programs, organizing over 10 Thai students to train in Wenzhou annually; since 2016, they have jointly established the "Thailand Excellence in Traditional Chinese Medicine Physicians Training Base"; and since 2018, they have offered a Sino-foreign cooperative nursing master’s program. In total, over 700 WMU students have participated in Thai university exchange programs, while hundreds of Thai teachers and students have come to Wenzhou via WMU’s pharmacy study tours, spring camps, and summer camps.

During the forum, beyond the Sino-Thai exchange activities, the "China-Cuba Joint Translational Research Center for Alzheimer's Disease and Other Neurodegenerative Diseases", hosted by WMU, was also signed and established. It will focus on joint scientific research, clinical translation, and talent cultivation for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. A delegation led by Mitchell Valdés Sosa, academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and director of the Cuban Neuroscience Center, visited WMU and Oujiang Laboratory, commenting, "Wenzhou has top scientific research talents, modern laboratories and outstanding clinical facilities. I believe that driven by WMU, Wenzhou will become one of the frontier positions for brain science research in China, and this cooperation will benefit China, Cuba and more 'Belt and Road' countries."

Healthcare knows no borders. Under the framework of the Sino-Thai Partnership Institutions Cooperation and Exchange Activities, Sino-Thai medical friendly exchanges and cooperation are writing a new chapter with deeper accumulation and a more open attitude.
