• Multi-dimensional Breakthroughs: Wenzhou Medical University Demonstrates Comprehensive Strength in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education at the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2025)

  • From October 12 to 15, 2025, the National Finals of the China International Collegiate Innovation Competition (2025) was held at Zhengzhou University. This year’s competition was jointly organized by 11 departments including the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Henan Province, and co-hosted by Zhengzhou University and the People’s Government of Zhengzhou City. With the theme “I Dare to Break, I Can Innovate”, it attracted 6.19 million projects and 24.43 million participants from 5,673 schools across 161 countries and regions worldwide. A total of 4,720 projects advanced to the finals, setting a new record in the event’s scale and influence. At this grand gathering, Wenzhou Medical University achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in three dimensions—competition performance, project presentation, and experience exchange—showcasing the systematic outcomes and core strength of its innovation and entrepreneurship education.

    The Competition Stage: Gold on the International Track and Outstanding Interdisciplinary Results

    Amid fierce competition, the project EyeRoute SmartGuide——Empowering Global Precision in Ophthalmic Surgery with a New Vision, jointly developed by teams from Renji College, Alberta College, and the School of Optometry (School of Biomedical Engineering), claimed the top gold medal in the International Project category of the Higher Education Main Track. Focused on the R&D and promotion of ophthalmic surgical navigation systems, the project addresses the challenges posed by complex orbital anatomy and high surgical difficulty through a high-performance 3D digital navigation system for ophthalmic procedures, ensuring the safety and precision of high-risk surgeries. To date, the project has helped over 200 patients regain their eyesight and is actively advancing the expansion of medical resources to underserved communities.

    In addition to this gold medal, the university also excelled in other competition tracks, securing 4 national silver awards and 4 national bronze awards (note: the official list of national bronze awards is yet to be fully released, and the final results shall prevail). This multi-category, multi-level award-winning performance demonstrates the university’s strong competitive edge in innovation and entrepreneurship across diverse fields.

    The Exhibition Stage: Cutting-edge Projects on Display, Highlighting Scientific Innovation and Transformation Potential

    Beyond the competition, the concurrent Outstanding Project Exhibition of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition has become a key window for universities to showcase their most promising innovative achievements. Only 47 outstanding projects were selected for public display in this exhibition. After rigorous evaluation, the School of Pharmacy’s project Precision Repair Strategies for Skin Trauma Based on FGF Dynamic Expression Profiles was chosen, alongside two projects from Zhejiang University, as Zhejiang Province’s representatives for the national outstanding project exhibition.

    This project represents the university’s active exploration in the frontier fields of biotechnology and precision medicine. Its innovative concepts and broad application prospects have drawn wide attention from experts and investors, fully reflecting Wenzhou Medical University’s profound research accumulation and strong potential for technological transformation. The project’s core highlights include the “Seven 1s” growth factor system, a 94% cure rate for related skin trauma, and its status as the world’s first FGF new drug, which is hailed as one of the top ten breakthroughs in relevant medical fields and is expected to extend the global metabolic health span by 10 years.

    The Communication Stage: High-level Symposium to Share the "Wenzhou Medical University Experience" in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education

    The competition is not only a arena for student innovation projects but also a platform for universities to exchange experiences in innovation and entrepreneurship education. During the event, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of Wenzhou Medical University was invited to participate in the national symposium on the construction of innovation and entrepreneurship colleges and practice bases. As one of only two university representatives from Zhejiang Province, the school delivered a keynote report at the symposium, sharing the “Wenzhou Medical University Experience” in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship education reform and practice.

    A single competition brings multiple gains. From student teams winning awards with cutting-edge technologies in the competition to innovative projects gaining wide attention in the exhibition, Wenzhou Medical University has fully verified and demonstrated the systematic achievements and overall strength of its innovation and entrepreneurship education. Moving forward, the university will take this competition as an opportunity to further deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, empowering more students to devote their wisdom and passion to the great cause of building a Healthy China.
