  • Recently, the Ministry of Education(MOE) announced the 2024accreditation and approvalresults of the 2024 annual filing and approval offor undergraduate programs inofferedby regular higher education institutions. Three undergraduate programs newly proposed byWenzhou Medical Universityhas secured approval to offer three new undergraduate programs:—Pharmaceutical Economics and Management, Biomedical Data Science, and Forensic Medicine—have been officiallyapproved.


    The newly approvedAmong these, Pharmaceutical Economics and Management and Biomedical Data Science programs are two of the five key directions under the MinistryMOE’s 2024 initiative to promote the developmentof “New Medical SciencesMedicine.” These programs are designed to meet critical national demands, such as population aging, the transformationupgradeof the health industry, and the digitalization of pharmaceuticals.


    The Pharmaceutical Economics and Management program, based on the is rooted in thefull life-cycle management of pharmaceuticalsdrugs, integratesing economics with medicine. It aims to cultivate decision-makers capable of assessing the cost-effectiveness of medical technologies. With Ccore courses includesuch aspharmacoeconomics and health policy, this program offeringdeliversrobust support for the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical industry.


    The Biomedical Data Science program focuses on the cutting edge of “data-driven medicine.” It aims to train interdisciplinary professionals equipped with biomedical knowledge and big data skills. Its core curriculum spansCore disciplines include data science, biomedical science, and pharmaceuticalsciencepharmacy, and itswhile hands-on training features medical data mining and AI-poweredartificial intelligence modeling,—contributing to the advancement of precision medicine and public health management.


    The Forensic Medicine program is designed to develop professionals with both judicialforensic identification skills and legal literacy. It helps address.fill the regional shortagesgap in forensic specialistsexperts and supports the improvement of social governance capacity.


    The approval of these three new undergraduate programs marks an important milestone in the university’s effort to implement the guiding principles of key national documentsMOE, such as the Guidelines for Talent Cultivation in Health Servicesand Health Industry Servicesand the Reform Plan for the Adjustment and Optimization of Disciplines and MajorsProgramsin GeneralRegularHigher Education. It reflects WMU’s proactive alignment with national strategies and regional development needs, as well as its continued efforts to optimize and expandits undergraduate programsofferings.


    In recent years, the university has adhered to a “demand-oriented, distinctive development” approach, actively servingservedthe needs of industrial development, and establishingestablisheda dynamic mechanism for adjusting its program offerings.


    By coordinating the overall academicdisciplinelayout and targeting the construction goal of "Comprehensive Healthcare," WMU has built a full-chain talent cultivation system that spans the entire life cycle of “prevention, basic medicineresearch, clinical treatment, and rehabilitation.”—covering the entire life cycle. Itenrolls students ins 11 major undergraduatedisciplines, categoriesincludinge Clinical Medicine, Medical Technology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciencesy, and Public Health, meeting the integrated needs of health services covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment,rehabilitation, and health maintenance.


    WMU is alsohas accelerateding the development of urgently needed programssuch as pediatrics and psychiatric medicinethroughin the medical field. For example, it is expanding enrollment andextending degree levelsacademic levels in Pediatrics and Psychiatry. Building on its established strengths in Rehabilitation Therapy, the university launched interdisciplinary programs such as AudiologicHearing and Speech Rehabilitation and Sports Rehabilitation in 2023 to address the challenges posed by an aging population.


    In terms of forward-looking disciplines,WMU has conducted talent demand forecasting and continuedes to refine and upgrade its academicdisciplinarystructure. Building upon its foundationBased on its development in New Medical SciencesMedicine disciplines, the university ishasactively advancingadvancedthe design of AI-powered new programs that integrate artificial intelligence,such as Intelligent Medical Engineering, andin order to establish innovative and adaptive academic directionsaccelerated planningfor adaptive and forward-looking new programs.
