From March 30 to April 3, Li Xiaokun, President of Wenzhou Medical University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, led a delegation to Thailand. They conducted intensive exchanges with top Thai universities, medical institutions, and industry associations, signing multiple cooperation agreements to inject new momentum into the university's "Double First-Class" initiative and internationalization strategy.
On March 31, the delegation first visited Burapha University. They reached consensus with the Faculty of Nursing on Sino-foreign cooperative education in nursing, joint doctoral programs, and "4+1" accelerated bachelor-master programs. The delegation also visited the Faculty of Medicine and its affiliated hospital to promote cooperation in clinical faculty-student exchanges and applications of trauma repair drugs. At the Faculty of Pharmacy, both sides discussed international research collaboration and pharmaceutical industrialization while holding academic exchanges on growth factor research. During the visit, President Li Xiaokun awarded the "Wenzhou Medical University International Student Recruitment Base" plaque to Thepsatri Secondary School Group of Thailand, laying the foundation for future quality student recruitment.
On April 1, the delegation signed a new university-level cooperation agreement with Burapha University, expanding collaboration to include TCM overseas education, joint doctoral programs in rehabilitation, public health master's and doctoral programs, and planning to establish an international joint research laboratory to support Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor development. The same day, the delegation held the 15th Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute to explore new approaches for deepening cultural and educational exchanges. The delegation also visited Burapha University's Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Krirk University.
On April 2, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, where Education Counselor Xu Lan highly commended Wenzhou Medical University's achievements in Thailand cooperation and pledged policy support for future collaborative projects. During their visit to Mahidol University's Faculty of Pharmacy, both sides reached consensus on faculty-student exchanges and joint pharmaceutical research. In the afternoon, the delegation signed an MOU with the Thai-Sino Association of Science and Technology, Thai Red Cross Society, and Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Medicine to promote the application and innovation of medical health technologies, facilitate research translation and industrial implementation, and enhance regional healthcare standards.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. In response to the national strategy, Wenzhou Medical University plans to collaborate with Thailand's top medical institutions and enterprises to explore the establishment of the "China-ASEAN Medical Industry Alliance." The initiative aims to deepen high-level medical talent cultivation, international joint research, and pharmaceutical industry promotion, foster integrated development with ASEAN regions, expand the global influence of China's medical disciplines, and contribute Wenzhou Medical University's strength to serving China's Belt and Road Initiative and global health endeavors.
