• WMU Hosts 2024 World Young Scientist Summit International Forum on Comprehensive Health Care, Unveiling Establishment of “City of FGF”

  • On November 16, the 2024 World Young Scientist Summit International Forum on Comprehensive Health Care & Biomedicine Innovation and Translation International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application was held at Wenzhou Medical University (WMU). During the forum, the construction of the "City of FGF" was officially launched, aiming to establish a global innovation hub for FGF research.

    Nobel Laureates, 10 domestic and international academicians, over 60 distinguished foreign guests, more than 50 national-level talents, and representatives of young scientists and entrepreneurs gathered at WMU. The conference focused on technological innovation, industrial needs, and economic growth and explored new pathways for the deep integration of industry, education, research, and application in the comprehensive health care sector, contributing to the sustainable development of global health.

    The World Young Scientist Summit International Forum on Comprehensive Health Care is one of China's premier events in health care, and this year marks its fifth consecutive year held at WMU. The theme of this year’s forum was "Technology Leading the Way to a Healthier Future." Keynote speeches from academicians and leading experts on their respective fields offered in-depth analyses of cutting-edge technologies and unique insights in the biomedical sector. Academics also gave a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in the translation of scientific research outcomes.

    Launch Ceremony of the “City of FGF” in Wenzhou Initiative

    The forum featured a launch ceremony for the "City of FGF" initiative, which will focus on in-depth research, extensive application, and industrial development of FGFs in biomedicine, highlighting the latest advancements in FGF signaling in life sciences, pathogenesis, and therapeutic applications. WMU will center its efforts on developing “Pharmaceutical Sciences” into a comprehensively leading discipline and fully leverage its strengths in education, scientific research, talent cultivation, and industry concerning FGFs to create a world-class FGF innovation hub.

    Thirteen international experts in the field of growth factors are appointed as advisors for the construction of the "City of FGF."

Together, WMU and its partners intend to explore the innovative development path of deep integration of industry, education, research, and application, continuously accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into practical productive forces and inject a continuous flow of innovative vitality into the joint establishment of a talent cultivation hub, a technological innovation hub, and an achievement transfer hub.

    The forum also included the Appointment Ceremony of Sino-Foreign Joint Training Doctoral Supervisors, the Appointment Ceremony of the Advisory Committee of the National Engineering Research Center for Cell Growth Factor Drugs and Protein Preparations, the launch of the FGF Scholarship program and the release of a series of new books.

    Keynote Speeches

    Professor Hartmut Michel, Nobel laureate in Chemistry, presented on "The challenges in biomedicine."

    Professor Ji Xunming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice president of Capital Medical University, delivered a speech on "Patient-driven medical research."

    Panel Discussion

    In the panel discussion session, Li Jian, fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Saverio Bellusci, Senior PI at Oujiang Laboratory, Yao Honghong, secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University School of Medicine, Wang Yi, deputy director of the Human Resources Department at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Professor Teng Lesheng from Jilin University, and Zhao Wei, Vice President of Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group, exchanged ideas on the theme "From Basic Research to Clinical Application: Challenges and Opportunities in Translating Scientific Research Achievements."

    Furthermore, the conference featured sub-forums such as the "International Symposium on Fibroblast Growth Factor Innovation and Transformation Research," "Symposium on New Drug Development and Translation for Major Diseases," "Symposium on Basic Research and Clinical Translation of Central Nervous System," and "Symposium on Biomedical Innovation and Transformation," bringing together leading global experts in the biopharmaceutical field to engage in in-depth discussions on the future development of life sciences and cutting-edge academic innovation.
