• Wenzhou Medical University Holds Opening Ceremony 2024 to Welcome Freshmen

  • On the morning of September 10th, Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) held a grand opening ceremony for its incoming freshmen at the Student Activity Center of the Chashan Campus, which was simultaneously broadcast to the satellite venues at the Binhai Campus and the Xueyuan Road Campus. A total of 2,614 postgraduate students and 4,110 undergraduate freshmen from all over the country gathered by the side of Daluo Mountain, brimming with dreams and expectations, to witness this solemn and warm moment.

    Leaders including Jin Huanmin, Li Xiaokun, Wang Junhong, Jin Shengwei, Zhu Xuebo, Shen Xian, Song Weihong, Li Junhong, Chen Naiche, and Lin Li attended the ceremony. Heads of relevant departments and schools of the university, teacher representatives, and counselor representatives also participated. The ceremony was presided over by Zhang Chengbin, deputy secretary of the WMU Party Committee.

    Before the ceremony began, the song "Youth Towards the Future" and the welcome video "WMU, Here I Come!" fired up the crowd and ramped up the energy. The "Dean's Messages" expressed the heartfelt care and expectations of the deans for the new students. The ceremony commenced with the solemn national anthem.

    Academician and President Li Xiaokun reviewed the achievements of WMU since its establishment, showing the university's progress. In his remarks, he encouraged the freshmen to embrace great ambitions and pursue true knowledge in the prime of life, to strive for innovation and achieve great deeds in the era of changes, and to cultivate a strong sense of patriotism and make new contributions to the construction of a strong nation.

    Mr. Chen Gaozhi, a faculty representative, shared his own educational and research experiences, as well as the encouragement from President Li Xiaokun before he went abroad for further study. He suggested that freshmen "determine their life goals as soon as possible, make rational plans for their endeavors, boast a deep love for our country, and work tirelessly for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."

    Zhu Ning, a postgraduate student representative, reviewed the spirit of the university's predecessors and the gains and insights during her undergraduate years at WMU, calling on all freshmen to carry forward the original intention of learning medicine to help the world.

    Yu Rui'en, a representative of the undergraduate freshmen, expressed his anticipation for the new knowledge-seeking journey in university. In the days to come, whether it's stormy or sunny, one should keep their original intention and move forward with determination, said Yu.

    At the ceremony, leaders on the stage pinned the university badges for the representatives of freshmen. All freshmen also put on their badges, officially becoming the new generation of "WMUers."

    At the end of the ceremony, freshman representatives received the flags symbolizing each school, interpreting the spirit of perseverance passed on from generation to generation.
