On September 1, the 11th Congress of the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology was held at the Great Hall of the People in Wenzhou. Gao Song, vice chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other academicians and experts made video speeches. The Department of Sci-tech Innovation of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology sent a congratulatory letter to the congress. Liu Xiaotao, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, and Xie Zhiyuan, secretary of the leading Party members group and vice chairman of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, attended the congress and delivered speeches. Zhang Zhenfeng, Ge Yiping, Chen Zuorong, Zhang Jiabo, and other municipal leaders, as well as Li Xiaokun, Song Weihong, and other representatives of academicians and experts in Wenzhou, attended the meeting.

The congress elected the 11th Committee of the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology. Li Xiaokun, WMU president and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was elected as the chairman of the committee. Zhou Xiangtian and Geng Wujun were elected vice chairmen. Song Weihong, Liu Fang, Qu Jia, Lv Fan, and Jin Shengwei serve as honorary advisers of the 11th Committee of the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology.

Li Xiaokun said that being elected as the new chairman of the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology was a great honor but also brought pressure. He would further carry forward the fine traditions of the Association for Science and Technology to unite scientific and technological workers around the Party, in the land of Wenzhou, and for economic and social development. The association would adhere to the "four orientations", always bear a concern for the nation, make every effort to develop key technological breakthroughs, and take credible steps to build itself into a warm, reliable, and effective home for scientific and technological workers. Moreover, it would aim to be the pacesetter of serving scientific and technological innovation, and make new and greater contributions to Wenzhou’s journey toward building a more dynamic and happy commercial port city as well as a pioneering modern socialist city.

The Association for Science and Technology is a people’s organization under the leadership of the Communist Party, a mass organization of scientific and technological workers, a bridge that links the Party and the government to scientific and technological workers, and an important force to promote the development of science and technology.
