  • “China (Zhejiang)-Albert Schweitzer Geriatric Medicine and Care Competence Center” Established at WMU

    On August 16, “2017 China-Austria Dialogue on Health and Elderly Care Cooperation, Wenzhou ---Austrian Workshop, One Belt One Road Initiative-Economic and Cultural Elites Meeting in Wenzhou” jointly sponsored by Wenzhou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (WFOCAO), Wenzhou Civil Affairs Bureau and Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) was held at the Sheraton Hotel. During the event, WMU signed a memorandum of understanding with the Geriatric Health Centers of the City of Graz, Austria, the Confucius Institute at the University of Graz, Austria, and Wenzhou Civil Affairs Bureau on the joint establishment of the “China (Zhejiang)-Albert Schweitzer Geriatric Medicine and Care Competence Center” at the School of Nursing, WMU. 

    As Austria’s largest elderly care center, geriatric medicine research center and research institute of geriatric medicine and care, the Geriatric Health Centers of the City of Graz, Austria (GGZ) boast   one-stop service and competence in elderly care, nutrition, and hospice with its technical and management models leading in the European Union. In March this year, GGZ and WMU signed a memorandum of understanding on carrying out faculty and student exchanges and scientific research cooperation. 

    After the establishment of the “China(Zhejiang)-Albert Schweitzer Geriatric Medicine and Care Competence Center” , the two sides will carry out academic, research and clinical cooperation to facilitate related research and training, promote advanced concepts and innovative technologies, and cultivate talents with a focus on geriatric medicine and care. The Center will also further promote the development of smart elderly health care service in Wenzhou to satisfy the growing demand of the local people. WMU President Lu Fan and Mayor Zhang Geng met with the Austrian delegation on August 15. 

    On August 16th, the Austrian delegation led by Rüdiger Taus, Mayor of Weitz District of Steiermark State, Austria, visited WMU. Vice President Jin Shengwei hosted a meeting with the delegation, during which both sides exchanged in depth and agreed on issues including the construction of the Center, the “3+1” Student Credit Recognition Program and bilateral short-term student exchange programs. President of the Albert Schweitzer Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology (ASIGG), related officials from WFOCAO and WMU’s International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the School of Nursing also attended the meeting.
