On the morning of May 24th, President Lu Fan of Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) hosted a meeting with the visiting delegation of Chonnam National University (CNU) in South Korea led by President JeongByeongseok. WMU Administrators from the Office of the President, the Office of Teaching Affairs, the Office of Science and Technology Development, the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and the School of International Studies attended the meeting.
Welcoming the delegation, President Lu Fan briefed the visitors about WMU. President JeongByeongseok expressed appreciation for the achievements WMU has made in academic and scientific fields. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on bilateral cooperation and reached a consensus on continuing efforts to promote cooperation in the fields of talent, academia, scientific research and clinical practice.
When staying at WMU, the delegation also visited the Human Body Museum, the Pilot Scale Experimental Base and the First Affiliated Hospital.
Reportedly, the history of Chonnam National University can be traced back to 1909 with Gwangju Agricultural College as its predecessor. Founded in June 1954, CNU is ranked No. 5 among all the national universities in South Korea by the evaluation of research and development strengths. It is ranked the fourth among all South Koreanuniversitiesby the number of published SCI papers. CNU now has 14 colleges, 8 graduate schools, a faculty of more than1, 000 professors, and 38000-strong students. Its College of Medicine has been one of the top medical institutions in South Korea and received the highest ratings in medical school accreditation examinations in 2004 and 2009. Since the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in November 2014, WMU and CNU have launched a joint doctoral degree program and will carry out further cooperation in faculty exchange and training.
