• WMU, University of Kentucky Hold Online Signing Ceremony

  • On the morning of October 19, WMU held an online signing ceremony with the University of Kentucky on the joint training program of master’s degree in public health. Susan Robert, Associate Provost of the University of Kentucky, and Jin Shengwei, Vice President of WMU attended the signing ceremony and signed the agreement on joint postgraduate training program. Donna Arnett, Dean of the College of Public Health of the University of Kentucky, Huajing Xiu, Executive Director of the Office of China Initiatives, and heads of the Graduate School, the International Affairs Office, and the School of Public Health and Management of WMU attended the meeting and exchanged views.

    Jin Shengwei first congratulated both parties on the successful implementation of the joint postgraduate training program as a result of the joint efforts of the Schools of Public Health and Management of the two universities. He pointed out that, as the international community is fighting against the pandemic, public health has become an increasingly important discipline. College of Public Health of the University of Kentucky has rich educational and scientific research resources with its disciplines achieving top national rankings. He looked forward to the complementary advantages of the two universities in the future to promote the development of public health disciplines and cultivate top international medical talents.

    Susan Robert also thanked the two sides for their efforts in promoting the joint postgraduate training program. At the same time, she hoped that the two sides could continue to maintain close cooperation and do a good job in project promotion and attract more excellent WMU students. On the basis of joint training of talents, she also looked forward to expanding the scope of cooperation and strengthening collaboration in academic and scientific research, making the cooperation a demonstration example for China-US cooperation in the field of public health.

    Subsequently, Jin Shengwei and Susan Robert signed an agreement on joint training of postgraduates on behalf of the two universities.

    The University of Kentucky is an American public research university, located in Lexington, Kentucky. The school has 16 colleges and 1 medical center. It ranks 301-400 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and 301-400 in the public health category of Global Ranking of Academic Subjects according to the 2021 ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities. According to the cooperation agreement, after completing four years of full-time undergraduate study in preventive medicine, students of WMU can apply to enter the University of Kentucky as international postgraduates after meeting the admission standards of the University of Kentucky. Those completing all the courses and meeting the degree awarding requirements of the two universities will receive a bachelor’s degree from WMU and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Kentucky.
