Recently, the General Office of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and General Office of the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province issued the "Notice on the Announcement of Lu Fan and Others as Special-grade Experts in Zhejiang Province". Professor Lu Fan at WMU was elected as a special-grade expert in Zhejiang Province. Up to now, four people at WMU have been awarded this title.
Lu Fan, professor and doctoral supervisor, successively served as the president of the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, the president of Wenzhou Medical University, and the Secretary of the Party Committee of Wenzhou Medical University. She is currently the director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Eye Diseases, the deputy director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Clinical Medicine under the Ministry of Education, the Chairman of the Asian Branch of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Prevention and Control, the vice president of the Ophthalmology Doctor Association under the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the director of the Vision Care Association of CPAM.
Professor Lu Fan’s team innovated to establish China’s first optometry & ophthalmology higher education system and hospital, integrating the development of clinical service, teaching and research, with obvious advantages and distinctive features. It is currently the National Engineering Technology Research Center, the State Key Laboratory and the National Clinical Research Center (Ophthalmology). She and her team have been committed to the development of basic research and clinical technology of ophthalmology and vision science for more than 20 years. The team has made great achievements in many aspects including myopia experimental models, eyeball imaging technology, clinical treatment for children with complex refractive errors, and has won the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement Award. The eye healthcare service system jointly created by the team provides the public with a new high-quality medical eye service model, which has made a great contribution to the field of ophthalmology and vision science internationally in terms of scale and strength.
The Special-grade Expert in Zhejiang Province is the highest academic and technical title established by Zhejiang Province, second only to the national academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The selection is conducted every three years, with no more than 30 recipients each time. The candidates shall be nationally leading experts and scholars who have made significant results or achievements in the field of basic or applied research of natural science, engineering and technology, and humanities and social science.
