• Pharmacy subject of WMU enters top 10% in the "Best Chinese Subjects Ranking" for the first time
  • On October 15th, the professional higher education evaluation institution Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities announced the 2020 "Best Chinese Subjects Ranking". For the first time, our school's pharmacy subject ranked among the top 10%, climbing 10 places from the previous year. In the same ranking range are Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, Harbin Medical University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and The Second Military Medical University.

The ranking list released this time includes 96 first-level subjects, and 4946 entries from 485 universities are on the list. WMU has eight entries this year, namely, pharmacy, clinical medicine, biology, public administration, traditional Chinese pharmacy, basic medicine, nursing, and biomedical engineering. Traditional Chinese pharmacy entered the list for the first time, and the ranking range of the other four subjects, including clinical medicine, biomedical engineering, and public administration, improved compared with the previous year.

Based on the school positioning and discipline development law, our school focuses on optimizing the discipline layout and condensing the discipline direction. Following the construction idea of "scientific positioning, gathering advantages, characteristic development, and overall improvement", we take the construction of biomedicine and biomedical as the starting point, carry out reform of the system and mechanism. We take the fifth round of national discipline assessment as a key task, decompose and implement the subject construction work at various levels, continuously stimulate the creativity of teachers and students, and accelerate the construction of first-class subjects.

It is reported that the Best Chinese Subjects Ranking by Shanghai Ranking examines universities offering academic master’s degree in first-level disciplines, and lists the top 50% of the universities of each discipline. The criteria include talent training, research projects, achievements and awards, academic papers, and high-end talents. The ranking data are all from authoritative third parties, such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international and domestic literature databases, etc.
