Canadian representatives including Brenda Hemmelgarn, dean of Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, Vice Dean Dennis Kunimoto, and members of the Alberta Joint Management Committee of Alberta Institute took part in the meeting.
The meeting adopted the list of administrators and members of the Joint Management Committee, Teaching Committee, and Academic Committee of Alberta Institute. The two sides discussed the details including student registration fee, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral enrollment plan, teaching plan, tutor arrangement, and so on.
Li Xiaokun pointed out that, as the most comprehensive Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run medical school in China and the first Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run school focusing on clinical medicine in China, Alberta Institute has attracted wide attention from all walks of life since its official launch. At present, the enrollment, teaching facilities construction, and other work of Alberta Institute are proceeding in an orderly manner. We should earnestly implement Governor Yuan Jiajun's instruction of "being brave in innovation, striving for distinction, contributing more achievements, and cultivating more talents" to strengthen cooperation and expedite all work. In particular, we should think creatively and do our best to promote the enrollment of Alberta Institute, so as to lay a solid foundation for its development.
Brenda Hemmelgarn, the foreign dean of Alberta Institute, said that based on the solid foundation of cooperation and complementary resources of the two universities, with the common goal of cultivating high-level medical talents with international vision, the Alberta Institute will surely develop into a world-class medical education project and a model of Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools.
It is reported that Alberta Institute will enroll 60 undergraduates majoring in clinical medicine in 2020. The college will integrate high-quality educational resources from China and Canada, adopt the classic North American medical education model, conduct English and bilingual teaching, and arrange outstanding scientists and outstanding doctors as mentors for student development. The college aims to provide each student with a world-class elite medical education and cultivate high-level, compound, innovative, and excellent medical talents with international vision.
