  • 11 Disciplines of WMU are Selected into the 2018 "Best Disciplines in China" Ranking
  • On November 11th, Shanghai Ranking officially released the 2018 "Best Disciplines in China" ranking. Eleven disciplines of WMU, including clinical medicine, pharmacy, biology, basic medicine, stomatology, nursing, combination of Chinese traditional and Western medicine, Chinese materia medica, biomedical engineering, public health and preventive medicine and public management, are on the list. The number increase by 3 over the previous year and the rankings of clinical medicine, pharmacy and basic medicine improved significantly.

    The ranking list includes 93 first-level disciplines, including 4999 disciplines from 460 universities. In this list, three disciplines of WMU, including clinical medicine, pharmacy and biology rank between the range of 10% - 25% of the same disciplines in China. Clinical medicine ranks 23rd, up 2 places from the previous year, and the pharmacy ranks 26th, up 5 places from the previous year. Nine disciplines, including basic medicine, stomatology, nursing, combination of Chinese traditional and Western medicine, Chinese materia medica, public management, public health and preventive medicine and biomedical engineering, ranks between 25% to 50% of the same disciplines in China. Among them, the basic medicine ranks 32, 3 places higher than the previous year, among the top 30%. Public management, public health and preventive medicine and biomedical engineering are selected into the list for the first time this year.
    Shanghai Ranking is the issuer of ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities), which has widespread influence and authority in the world. The best disciplines ranking focuses Chinese mainland universities, and disciplines are from first-level disciplines in the Catalogue of Academic Degree Granting and Talents Training Disciplines issued by the Ministry of Education. Ranking criteria include not only international journal articles, highly cited scientists and other indicators of global comparable, but also include national talent program, state-level scientific research projects, national major awards and other key indicators of the construction of the disciplines. The index system of this list is composed of 5 categories, including high-end talents, scientific research projects, achievements awards, academic papers and talent cultivation, and corresponds to more than 10 index dimensions, including more than 30 measurement indexes.
