  • 2018 World Wenzhounese Congress’s Academician Forum focusing on the theme “One Health• New Future” held at WMU’s Binhai Campus
  • On October 29th, 2018 World Wenzhounese Congress’s Academician Forum focusing on the theme “One Health•New Future” was held at the Binhai Campus, Wenzhou Medical University (WMU). 9 academicians at home and abroad were invited to make special reports on the Forum focusing on frontier topics in the life sciences, the life & health education and the upgrading of the healthcare industrial development. Shi Aizhu, member of the Standing Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Wenzhou Municipal Committee, and Wang Jiaohu, the CPC Secretary of the Dongtou District Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. WMU President Li Xiaokun delivered a speech on the Forum hosted by Vice President Jin Shengwei.

    Yang Xiongli and Huang Hefeng, both academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering including Zhang Xinshi, Liao Wanqing, Liu Changxiao, and Chen Hongyu, Professor Matthew Brown, Member of the Australian Academy of Science, Charles Cantor, Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Trevor Lithgow, Member of the Australian Academy of Science and ARC (Australian Research Council) Australian Laureate Fellow made keynote speeches focusing on the theme.

    At the site of the opening ceremony, WMU signed a university-government cooperation framework agreement with the Dongtou District People’s Government. According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly promote the university-government collaboration and the development of higher education, jointly push forward the industry-university-institute (research) cooperation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, strengthen the cooperation of talent introduction, and cooperate in decision-making consultation and medical and healthcare services.

    Appointment ceremony for senior members of the Expert Committee on the Construction of Dongtou into a “Life Sciences Island” was also held on the sideline of the Forum. Some academicians offered guidance after elaborated study on how to build Dongtou into a “Smart Island of Healthcare” and other topics including how to promote the return of related talents, capital and industrial resources.

    The Forum was jointly organized by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Wenzhou Municipal Committee, the Worldwide Wenzhounese Friendship Union,  Wenzhou Medical University, and the CPC Dongtou District Committee and the Dongtou District People’s Government. More than 800 national, provincial and ministerial-level talents, academic linchpins and student representatives enjoyed the academic feast presented on the Forum.
