  • WMU Team Wins Second Prize in the Final of the 9th National Medical Colleges Students’ Clinical Skills Competition
  • On May 13th, the final of the 9th National Medical College Students’ Clinical Skills Competition came to its close in Dalian Medical University. A team of students from Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) including Zhu Xiuzhi, Zhang Zizhen, Wu Yanyuan and Zheng Hui won a second prize for team competition, marking the seventh consecutive year for WMU to win awards of the competition.

    168 competitors on 42 teams from Northeast and North China, East China, Central China, South China and Southwest and Northwest China Divisions took part in the competition's preliminaries, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. They competed with each other for 89 clinical skills and theoretical knowledge in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, neurology, infection, emergency, otolaryngology, dermatology, and nursing. By applying the innovative molds and the standardized patient (SP) models, the competition assesses competitors’ clinical thinking and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice by highly simulated clinical situations. In addition to clinical skills, collaborative teamwork, innovation, humanistic care and psychological quality of the competitors are more valued in the assessment during the competition. After two days’ competition, a team of 4 students from WMU won the second prize by virtue of meticulous clinical thinking, proficient clinical skills, high psychological quality and teamwork spirit.

    Starting in 2010, the National Medical College Students' Clinical Skills Competition can be regarded as the "Olympic Games” of medical students as more than 100 medical schools participate in the competition each year. With the theme of "Upholding medical ethics, improving medical skills, implementing medical knowledge and showing talent", the competition aims to innovate the practice teaching system, strengthen the training of medical students in clinical basic theory, basic knowledge, basic skills and humanistic care, and improve their ability to innovate, ability of practice and teamwork awareness to promote medical students’ comprehensive quality and the quality of personnel training.
